Blacksmithing Coal Sources

We carry this list of sources for Blacksmithing Coal in each issue of Blacksmith's Gazette and update it each time that we receive new information about coal. Hopefully, each of these suppliers are still in business and still supplying coal. Since we have not received any feed back to the contrary, we assume that they are still a viable source for coal or charcoal. Speaking of charcoal, never use briquettes as fuel for the forge. They don't work very well and they emit harmful fumes when blown by a bellows.

Note: The sources listed herein have been supplied by readers of Blacksmith's Gazette over the years. Some of the listings are perhaps 15 years old. If you find that a supplier is no longer supplying good blacksmithing coal, please advise us so that we can remove them from the list. We have no personal experience with any of these suppliers and must depend upon our readers to help us to keep the list up to date.

There are a lot of chunks about 4" in size (which break up easily) and a lot of fines...so it’s good for welding but it helps to wet it down.
