This hammer was found in a basement and had not been used in a long time as evidenced by the junk piled up around and over the treadle. It is questionable whether this machine was ever used to work hot iron. The anvil appears to be a concrete filled bollard but that may just be a coating of heavy dust and debris. Note the added weight on top of the spring.
