    NOVEMBER 1, 2002 * We have our 2,000,000th visitor!

That is over ONE MILLION per year (353 days). Our curent traffic rate is 1.67 million/year and will exceed 2 million/year sometime next year! This is following the same increase that has had us equaling the total accumulated traffic of the prior years!

    January 1, 2003 @ 2,255,000 Year Start.

    June 30, 2003 @ 3,000,000
We have broken the three million visitor mark this morning. Traffic is down a little. That is 745,000 visits since January 1st for an average of 4082 visits a day.

July 28, 2003 : TRANSFERED TO NEW SERVER
It took 30 days to setup and move to the new server. This included numerous other sites that we host. It then took another couple months to debug everything. . (Five months later we still have issues to address)

    February 23, 2004 @ 4,000,000
We broke the FOUR MILLION visitor mark late today. That is one million visitors in less than 8 months!

    October 7, 2004 @ 5,000,000
Sometime in the wee hours this morning we broke the 5 million visitor mark! That is another million visits in less 8 months again!

    December 30, 2003 @ 3,723,500
Added illustrations and a full bibliography to Bruce "Atli" Blackistone's Swords of Iron, Swords of Steel article on the Armoury page. Also linked to it from our un-released/in progress "Sword Making for Dummies" article.
    December 31, 2003 @ 3,725,200 YEAR END
    125,765 visits in December
    January 1, 2004 @ 3,726,876    *** HAPPY NEW YEAR! ***
2003 traffic = 1,471,500 nearly 1.5 million visits per year. Our growth rate has tapered off. In the past our traffic was doubling every year. For this to continue was a mathematical imposibility. We continue to grow but not at the previous meteroic rate.
    January 23, 2004 @ 3,841,686
Archived the Calendar of Events for September through December 2003. Past schedules should help planning future schedules.

Raised prices on ITC products (first time in two years). Low markup was costing us money any time shipping costs were not calculated perfect. . .
    February 1, 2004 @ 3,888,000
We had 161,124 visits this month, up over 15,000 visits/month since the last check.
Posted the in progress Sword Making article. Unfinished as it is, it answers TOO many questions that we repeatedly get on anvilfire.
    February 11, 2004 @ 3,937,197
Welcome new advertiser and contributor Fill Tilt Features. Full Tilt Features with a blacksmithing slant will be appearing on our story page. February 14 - 21, 2004
    Guru visits Costa Rica.
    February 23, 2004 @ 4,000,000
We broke the FOUR MILLION visitor mark late today. That is one million visitors in less than 8 months! Or a rate of 1.5 million visits per year.
    March 6, 2004 @ 4,060,500
Our server was off-line from about 12:15 to 1:30 today. This is only the third time we have had a real off-line situation in 7 years.
    March 15, 2004 @ 4,100,000
Our HOME page broke 1,000,000 hits. That count is 1/4 the total for anvilfire due to there being hundreds of entry points to the site (there are some 300 archive files that have been hit some 400,000 times). Our home page has had double the traffic of the home page of our nearest competitor's who had a two year head start on anvilfire.

Related off site traffic not counted on anvilfire.

    April 2, 2004 @ 4,192,415
We had a record 153,330 visits in March an average of almost 5,000 visitors a day. That would agerage out to 1.8 million visits in a year.

    • Visits from 121 countries.
Traffic oddities include the fact that our hammer weights table is a popular page (1049 hits) second after the heat treating FAQ (4169 hits) and the brake drum forge (1476).
    May 1, 2004 @ 4,324,065

Edited (local links) and posted Camp Fenby pages.

Although I have not been entering every change here a LOT goes on "behind the scenes" every day. The above is from one and a half days (I was up until 4am last night) and is typical of my days (on top of answering questions on-line and by mail). Two new book/CD reviews have been written and will be officialy posted soon and 6-8 more are in the works (photos taken, HTML blocked out). I've also done a lot of work on client pages such as the Industrial Gold Air Compressor page, images and banners for the Big BLU site. There are also four new banners for the Kaynes. I have orders to pack and ship AND I need to get ready to go to Camp Fenby and the ABANA conference and time is runing out. . .

Hopefully the newly incorporated non-profit CSI is successful and I can get some help. Otherwise I will just get more and more behind. . . Oh yeah. . I have to finish building THAT web site too!

Been constantly updating the ABANA conference NEWS since I got home. All the images were lightened. New images and pages were added. Links and names have been added. Then almost all of the Uri Hofi gallery photos have replaced from reworked originals. They look much better. There will be a few minor edits but for the most part this volume of the news is finished.

I also linked the photo of Corrina Messoff to some of her work from earlier news. I have also repaired some old dead links to abandonded CanIron websites. August 1, 2004 @ 4,703,441 - 121,141 visits in July
The new ABANA Camp Fenby edition of the NEWS has had 1,656 visits. Accumulated hits to the news has been 133,591.

    In July anvilfire had:
    • 121,141 visits
    • 14,056 search strings found by
    •  6,922 sites linked to.
    •    122 countries accessing
    • 309,218 files were served.
    • 54,315 "users"* accessed the site.
    * Users are IP addresses. Since many systems use random IP assignment this number is probably much lower and repeat users (we have MANY) may be counted more than once. My local ISP uses two IP addresses. AOL, MSN and other large systems use hundreds and a single user may have a different IP address every time they connect to the net. WE estimate that we have approximately 18,000 users a month. Just goes to show that you cannot trust server stats and that interpreting them is an art.
    August 5, 2004 @ 4,719,746
Went through the link lists last night and removed all the links that no longer pointed to the proper content or were dead ends. Had ANOTHER Porn site buy up a blacksmith's URL!

Our NEW Linking policy is to NOT LINK to any site that uses Pop-Up advertising. I THINK I removed most of the links that had pop-ups. Most were the ones not going where they should. However, free hosting systems keep (YOUR) old content forever and use pop-up ads. So the content is stil there, but it is not maintained and the free hosting system treats it as theirs.

I still have link lists to go through on other sites we manage. . .
August 6, 2004 @ 4,721,976  Joined the Blacksmiths Journal "Top Fifty Blacksmithing Sites" link system. You can't have a list like this and not have anvilfire listed less than #1!

NOTE:   Due to the Top Sites system counting only the pages that have the Top Sites code on them the anvilfire stats reported by Top Sites will be much lower than they actually are. The anvilfire system has individual and site wide counters on thousands of pages while the top site code is only on a dozen or so. We have hundreds of entry pages but only a few are counted by Top Sites. Where we count thousands of individual accesses Top Sites only counts hundreds. Even with this small sampling we currently dominate the list.

    August 8, 2004 @ 4,729,500
anvilfire has had 1,000,000 visits this year! That means we should have 1,570,000 visits or more this year bringing our total to 5,300,000!
    August 10, 2004
CSI, CyberSmiths International had its first official board meeting. It went fairly smooth. More work to do. I spent much of the day getting the Business Forum setup for the meeting.
    August 13, 2004 @ 4,750,200 (wee hours)
At 4:30 am Eastern our server's hard drive is to be is to be replaced. We will be off-line for a couple hours.
    August 15, 2004 @ 4,756,520 (wee hours)

Being Friday the 13th was a black omen for our HD problem. The drive and backup stalled at 4:am and it was mid day before we were fully operational. The new drive came with a fresh copy of the OS and management software and some new problems. It took much of Saturday to sort out disk quotas and mail configuration problems. And all of THIS for blacksmithing.

The Blacksmiths Journal also is having a black weekend. Their site and the "Top Fifty Blacksmithing Sites" which we and many others joined in the past week is broken. Their server has hardware and configuration problems and their site has been off-line much of the weekend. This has resulted in broken image links on everyone's pages that joined the system. They should be back soon.

A new Traffic Report has been created for our advertisers and will be posted in the rates and advertising page which is being rewritten. The report has the values of the counters on 40 key pages as well as the web-rings.
    September 1, 2004 @ EST 4,839,013 Posted September 13

WOW! This month is flying by! Between hard drive replacment, going to the B² Design Power Hammer School and launching a new web site, I completely missed the month end report. Somewhere in there I also rebuilt the advertising page as the report above indicates. The server logs indicate August was a record month. We found an inaacuarcy in our webstats due to weekly clearing of the logs. The traffic for one day every week was lost. This does not effect our counters.

    Visitors for August 2004 = 125,572, 4050 per day, 169/hr, 3/minute.

    In August anvilfire had:
    • 125,572 visits (up 4,300)
    • 16,100 search strings found by
    •  7,706 sites linked to (producing traffic).
    •    107 countries accessing
    • 4205902 files were served (up 111,000)
    • 63,118 "users"* accessed the site.
    * Users are IP addresses.
    September 17, 2004 @ 4,902,062
Fixed the POST button problem in the Hammer-In, Calendar of Events, CSI member and business forums and voting system. This problem effected Opera and some new versions of Mozilla as well as IE browsers on certain platforms. They should all work now.

    Sorry for the inconvienience.
    September 24, 2004 @ 4,936,299
Launched the 35th Edition of the anvilfire NEWs covering the B² Design Big BLU Power Hammer School and SOFA Quadstate. More photos to be posted during the event.
    September 29, 2004 @ 4,961,843
Finished posting what we had for the 35th Edition of the anvilfire NEWs covering the B² Design Big BLU Power Hammer School and SOFA Quadstate. Will update later if photos are submitted in a few days.

We posted 18 pages with 75 images and text.

We will break the 5,000,000 visit mark in about 9 days!
    October 7, 2004 @ 5,000,000
Sometime in the wee hours this morning we broke the 5 million visitor mark. On February 23 of this year we broke the 4,000,000 mark. That is another million visits in less 8 months again!

I had planned to make a big deal of this point but was away in Norris TN at the Museum of Appalachia doing a demo with Paw-Paw. In late February or early March or 2005 we will break the 6,000,000 visitor mark then in August or September the 7,000,000 mark! That means that we will possibly hit 10,000,000 in 2006!
    October 15, 2004 @ 5,044,170
While catching up on some Slack-Tub registrations (I am WAY behind), we had in ONE week people from the following places register:

    • Great Britian
    • Ireland (but had to pull due to bad e-mail address).
    • Many more from the US. . .

    October 19, 2004 @ 5,060,809
