The Twelfth Annual Batson Bladesmithing Symposium & Knife Show
April 7-9, 2000   Report by James Wolfe
Photos by Jim Wolfe (c) 2000 anvilfire.com Rick Dunkerley's main job is being a guide for big game out of Lincoln, Montana. Rick is a master knife maker in mosaic Damascus steel, and a master teacher and demonstrator in his ability to teach even the novice of students.

He kept the audience captivated by explaining the "what" and the "why" of what he was doing. In the slack time his stories of big game hunting kept us amused and intrigued.

Rick demonstrated how to layout different patterns of Damascus steel by forging, then cutting into patterns, forge welding the pieces and drawing them back out.

The piece before it was cut and tack welded then forged into a billet. Very in detailed demo.
